Officer Reports:

PPT Moyes: Good morning, everyone, sorry about not getting the agenda out this week. That will happen and continue next week.

Sergeant Rubing: Just a reminder, no jeans.

Committee Reports:

Chairman Crowder: Friday ice cream was fantastic with AO. I think everyone loved it and we’d love to do it again. Go Week ice cream social was great too and we have extra ice cream.

Chairman Gonzales: We started working on the archive. Minor announcement, if you want your face on the website send us a square picture by Friday. Send it to me or in the discord and we will get it on there.

Special Business:

Speaker Avent: We have the international club here to speak.

President Of International Student Club: We have a budget proposal for you guys. We have lots of events to share culture and things, so we are trying to show you our events and the money we have and need. The first one is Lunar New, a big event in Asia, and this is our biggest event of the year. Our policy is that we cover everything because getting money here is difficult. OGI will help cover some cost. 70-80 people will come to this event, and we need a lot of food. The next event is pizza and chill to share the American style celebration. Then we have a barbecue behind the gym, and during finals week we give them candy bags. We are asking for $601.07 for all the events. We have $264 right now.

PPT Moyes: What is the timing compared to club finding?

President Of International Student Club: The first event is February 1st. The next one is March, and then April.

Treasurer: The budget just doesn’t fund the first event which is coming up February 1st.

Senator Bright: Do we have a bill that can be brought up during new business?

PPT Moyes: There is a template on the website.

Senator Berry: You can also copy the one from SWE.

Senator Drebot: Do we have a number available for current spending?

Chairman Allen: I am looking at it but don’t have a number now. The finding should be in in the next week or so.

Senator Hofer: If we provide funding, will you put a senate sticker on pizza? Or put a sign that says funded by senate?

Senator Ko: Can I write a bill and put it on the website?

Chairman Allen: So, the number is $601.07?

President Of International Student Club: Yes

Senator Gonzalez: Is this open to all students?

Treasurer: Sure, if you are free you can stop by, but the budget is for international students.

Chairman Drebot: Motion to table this until the bill is written?

Motion Passes

Old Business:

New Business:

Senator Fuentes: I motion to bring Dante-For-All Guild Sponsorship to the floor.

Senator Bright: I would like to give the floor to representatives from the Guild.

Guild Members: Who has taken English Comp. I and II? Was it fun? Probably not so much. That might be because LETU is very stem focused. The higher-level history and English classes focus on a discussion and group learning, rather than lectures. One of the classes this semester is this retreat. There is a conference in April that students get to participate in. We are trying to fund 15 spots for students not in the seminar. With senates funding we could open these spots.

Chairman Allen: How much are you requesting?

Senator Gonzales: $3000.

Chairman Allen: When is this event?

Senator Fuentes: It is April 8.

Senator Berry: When do you have to purchase everything by? And who is funding the current people going?

Guild Members: Right now, the students in the seminar are paying for it through paying tuition as a class. There are not tickets, but I am not sure the last day to sign up.

Senator Bright: I do know it is not a ticketed event, but the amount of people attending affects travel plans.

Chairman Allen: Do you know if the money would have to be paid in advance, or if less than 15 people go would we get that money back?

Senator Gonzales: Yes, you will get it back.

Chairman Drebot: Have we thought about people raising their own funds?

Senator Fuentes: The $3000 is for food, housing, and transportation.

Chairman Drebot: So, have we thought about people who go to pay that for themselves?

Guild Member: The idea is that we are trying to bring in people who would not have this opportunity.

Chairman Drebot: The Bible does say wealth answers everything. Like they were saying, most students don’t have the money. I would like to know where $200 per person came from?

Senator Fuentes: Senator Bright and I were given a spreadsheet budget, and I can show that to you.

Senator Bright: Mrs. Dr. Williams came up with this budget.

Chairman Allen: Please send that to me. I am willing to give the funds for this, and as soon as you know how much you need, we will make sure you get it.

Chairman Moore: Would it be easier for y’all to confirm the money when you have it and give money later?

Senator Bright: There are not going to be enough details in 2 weeks to clarify the exact number.

Senator Shaughnessy: It is also an allocation so anything not used will be sent back.

Chairman Gonzales: I agree with Chairman Allen. Motion to bring this to a vote.

Chairman Allen: Move for a division of the house.

Ayes have it.

Senator Ko: I’d like to bring Lunar New Year Funding Act to the floor.

Senator Hofer: Why is it $522.50?

Senator Ko: The funds are for the one event.

Chairman Allen: I think it would be easier to do $601.07. I would like to change that.

Sergeant Rubingh: Motion to amend the bill.

Senator Hofer: I don’t want to hear “we have the money.”

PPT Moyes: I motion to amend it to $601.07.

Bill amended.

Chairman Allen: Bring it to vote.

Ayes have it.

Announcements:

PPT Moyes: I am announcing my running for Student Body VP.

Chairman Crowder: Senate Friday ice cream this Friday with cookies and cream. From 4-5 in ASC.

Open forum:

Senator Bright: Update on calculus SI – Senator Hofer talked to a professor who will poll a class. Once we get that info, we will see what kind of demand there is.

Senator Branch: Are senate polo’s still a thing?

Senator Berry: I am trying to find an exact match, but we can’t do that. So, I will present new designs next session.

Sergeant Rubingh: What do we consider enough demand to need an SI?

Senator Hofer: I will ask some other SI instructors and see what percentage of the class usually comes.

Senator Ko: When I was in a calc. class, 18 people said yes. People in statistics would like an SI too, it is rather difficult.

Speaker Avent: Which statistics?

Senator Ko: Statistics statistics.

Senator Neranjo: I will say psychology statistics does have an SI, so it would make sense for normal statistics to.

Senator Drebot: Does PPT Moyes have certain powers he needs to release?

Speaker Avent: Yes, any powers he might exercise over the governmental process committee.

PPT Moyes: Do these transfer to the vice president or someone else?

Speaker Avent: Yes.

PPT Moyes: I officially revoke my powers concerning senators, appointment of chairs, and removal of senators.

Senator Branch: I motion to recess.

Chairman Allen: There has been an SI in the past. There is not one this semester.

Chairman Crowder: Did Solheim close at 8:00 pm this week?

Senator Branch: I have heard this is not true.

Senator Sabatini: I was there last weekend and it closed at 8.

PPT Moyes: I motion to send this to the Athletic Relations Committee.

Chairman Gonzales: I motion to recess for today.

Motion passed
