Sgt. Edwards: Quick reminder, no jeans, the first will fall on the next session, let’s stay focused.

Committee Reports

Senator Anderson: There will be a bill on the floor to create a new committee it is the athletes relations committee.

Senator Gonzalez: PR&R today is picture day, if you can stay after that’s great if not, we will do it next week.

Chairman Willis: Student life committee, we have finished purchasing and assembled the thank you bags. All the bags are done for everyone that helped out during the snow. We have started giving out the bags. This Friday, from 5-7 if you can show up to give away Chick-fil-a and help clean up that would be great. Before that is senate ice cream. If you do not help out, I will be doing 5 hours of senate work by myself. We are still working on our minutes.

Senator Rubingh: GoPro we are introducing a bill to amend the elections process.

Chairman Willis: Last session I motioned to table that bill, I now motion to indefinitely table the table bill.

Senator Eaton: Why is it being tabled indefinably?

Chairman Willis: We came to the conclusion it would be easiest to do it on a case by case basis. We can have a senator write up a bill for it. We can transfer senate money to floor funds.

PPT LaQuey: A bill hasn’t been brought yet. We can just move on.

Senator Anderson: I would like to motion to bring bill Athletic Relations Committee to the floor

Senator Avent: I do see the purpose of the committee, as this amendment is worded, there is overlap between this and student life. If we make another committee and lose senators. This might be better as a subcommittee of student life. I see there is more reasoning behind this bill, but I think this isn’t the best idea.

Senator Anderson: There has been five committees in the past. The reason why we are creating this is there are other things this committee will handle. Student life has a lot of other projects.

Senator Hofer: I think this is legitimate, but I do think it is short sighted if they were to make a temporary committee.

VP Murphy: Our laws have a way to create a subcommittee that can be permanent. Why are we creating another committee?

Senator Sabbatini: Being an athlete, this would be a good committee, there is a disconnect, I think this would be a great committee, it could work well with student life, the purpose of this would be helpful.

VP Murphy: How would that functionally work?

Senator Avent: Going off of VP Murphy and Sabatini, I think it is important to build relationships, there are also other important issues. Some of these things could still be a disconnect, if it is existing. I think it would be better as a subcommittee. It had to do with size and similar things. This is not the way to go, I do not think just forming a committee is the way to go.

Senator Rubingh: Shouldn’t this have gone through GoPro?

Senator Avent: It would be advised but it was brought up in session and it was not referred to student life and is coming through FAC.

Senator Anderson: One reason it came through FAC, was because there are a few clubs that are looking to fix the south fields. It was brought up in their budgets. Then moving on, the reason why it is not temporary, there have been a lot of questions about athletics. Senator Moore can address some of these.

VP Murphy: It is currently citizen Moore.

Senator Anderson: Motion to add senator Moore to the roll.

Chairman Willis: For the sake of time, I motion to bring to a vote by a show of hands.

VP Murphy: I won’t entertain that, the intention is important, we just need to figure out the logistics. I don’t know if it’s the smartest move.

PPT LaQuey: My recommendation would be to make it a committee level and make it temporary, I think it would be better if it delt with. I recommend it is friendly amended.

Senator Anderson: I move to friendly amend the bill to edit section E 3 to state that the committee may be made up of senators and athletes, and to add to section 6, the committee shall be temporary with a sunset clause of one year before it is brought up to be addressed. And to edit the explanation and reasoning to say temporary.

Senator Avent: Since we are not exactly sure of the nature of this bill, I do not think we should vote on it at this point, I motion to refer this matter to GoPro.

Senator Anderson: It means we can still be adjourned normally but there is the ability to come back into session.

VP Murphy: We can recess, but we do not have to go through the president to meet again.
